My Custom Crosman 2250

Well, here it is finally in it's completed form and ready to provide many years of fun. I hope you all like the photos and the info about this gun.

I finally had an opportunity to shoot it for the first time today since it is finally all together, I was extremely pleased with the results. I haven't even done the poly transfer mod to it and I am getting 675-680FPS using 14.3gr CPs with the adjuster all the way in. With the adjuster turned down I get about 625FPS using 14.3gr CPs. I shot a couple of 21.1gr Beeman Kodiaks at about 570FPS. 14.6gr Beeman FTS were doing about 650FPS with max power. I imagine the poly transfer port mod will put me above the 700FPS mark with 14.3gr CPs on max power. Shot count on max power setting was about 15-17 shots, with it turned down I can get over 20.

Accuracy is excellent, I am printing about 1/2" at 20 yards without really trying too hard. I didn't take any pics of groups yet, but I will in upcoming days.

Next things to do will be a HDD for higher shot count and maybe the poly transfer port mod. Really, 680FPS is more than enough power for my range of shooting, so I may not do it. But I would like more shots though, so the HDD is a must.

This gun is definitely my favorite shooter so far. It's accurate, powerful and looks great(IMHO). I am going to have a very good time shooting this gun for many years. Thank you to all of the guys(Grant Stace, Tim McMurray, Art Braden, Roy Weid) that make the incredible parts that allow me to build such a fine gun. I couldn't do it without you guys.

Here are some up to date photos of my guns

It's been a while since I have posted any updated photos of some of the changes I have made to my guns. Here are some photos I have just taken to show you some of the changes.

I took the Walnut RB grips and pumper from my 1377 carbine and put them on my 1377 pistol, then I took the set of camo grips and pumper from Rick Andres and put them on my 1377 carbine. I like the looks of this setup better and it is also more practical for my shooting needs.

A little while back I ordered an aluminum and stainless bolt handle from Roy at MountainAir for my 2240. It goes perfectly with the rest of the aluminum accent pieces I have put on the gun thus far. Much nicer than the stock Crosman bolt handle. I have a chrome trigger shoe to add as well to get rid of the blue one that came on the gun when I bought it. Notice you can see the installed HDD in the picture.

The 1377 is going to receive a new LPA mim sight from Crosman. I am just waiting for them to ship it to me(been 2 weeks). I sold the Williams Notch Blade sight I bought since it didn't work well at all with the stock front sight post. This new LPA mim should be just the ticket!

There have been no changes done as of late to my 1322 or Quest. I did purchase a stainless steel spring tensioner from Grant in NZ, but I haven't decided which gun to put it on yet.

Currently I am building myself a custom 2250 that will have a VERY nice breech, a 24" barrel with carbon fiber shroud, a power adjuster and a 12 gram Boss valve with the cap bored out for larger volume. I will probably add an HDD to it to help with excess CO2 waste. I still haven't decided on the type of stock setup I want to use yet. Once I have her all put together I will post some photos and some chrony strings and groups. This one is going to be real nice I think.

A new custom part for my 2240

I just received this nice new custom machined barrel band made by Greg Schutte at Blue Fork Design. I think it's a nice cosmetic upgrade for my 2240 match rifle. It is machined from aluminum and anodized black. This thing sure is a lot nicer than the painted, cast pot metal band that comes on the stock 2240!

Here is my Crosman Quest 1000

I purchased this gun a while back at Big5 Sporting Goods and since then have done a couple of mods to it. The first thing I did was take it apart and lube tune it. It shoots a LOT smoother since that was done, it really tamed down the firing cycle. I also added a GTX trigger blade replacement that I purchased from PSP Airguns. This mod alone made it shoot like a different gun. It reduced the trigger pull from over 5lbs stock to a little less than 2 lbs. The trigger upgrade is worth every penny in this gun since the stock trigger pull is WAY to heavy. I am able to shoot ragged one holers at 2o yards easy with this gun now, since the mods.

I also topped it off with a Center Point power class 4-16x56mmAO red/green illuminated reticle scope. This is the scope I won a few months ago in the Center Point scope giveaway(Thanks Josh!). I have to say I am very happy with this scope so far. It has stood up to the springer recoil with no damage yet. The optics are very clear on this scope and with the large objective it is easy to acquire your target with such a wide field of view. I haven't done much low light shooting so I haven't really tested the illuminated reticle feature out yet. But from what I can tell it seems to be pretty effective. This scope is a great addition to the Quest and I am happy with the combo. I really enjoy shooting this gun.

The only other thing I may do to it is to install a muzzle brake in the future. I will most likely get one of Rich in Mich. custom brakes as he makes some for the Quest line of guns.

Here are the latest mods to my 1377

It's been quite a while since I have last posted anything new on my blog here. Well, I finally got around to doing some more mods to a couple of my guns, so I figured I would takes some photos and show them off.

Here is my 1377, which didn't have much done to it before, with a new Crosman steel breech, Williams Notch Blade sight and an extended bolt probe and steel handle from Mac1 Airguns. I sure do like the Williams sight, it seems to help with my aim and accuracy. The steel breech was necessary to mount the Williams sight and since I got the breech I picked up an extended bolt probe from Mac1 Airguns because that helps with accuracy and FPS a little bit.

Next will be some power mods such as a flat top piston and valve. For now though it is a sweet shooter and I am overall pretty happy with it.

One of the nicest customs I have seen(built by Ernie Fuentes)

Ernie Fuentes aka Ernie The Eyeball built this beautiful custom 2240 to use as a 10M match pistol. This without a doubt is one of the nicest customs I have seen out there. Custom match grips by Steve Corcoran and many other custom mods such as a match brake, match barrel and a prototype trigger adjuster. Very nice custom sight setup on this one too.

He has since sold this fine gun to feed another need, but we all thought he was crazy! Believe me if I had the money at the time I would have bought this gun from him in a heartbeat. Gotta love it!

In the future when Steve Corcoran starts making grips for the 22XX/13XX guns again, I will be looking into a set of his match grips to build my ownmatch pistol similar to Ernie's old gun. Until then I can only dream. ;)

Tested out the power adjuster on my 2240

I finally got a chance to shoot my 2240 after I installed Art's power adjuster on it. I must say that this little accessory was worth every penny, not only does it look great, but it works great as well. With the power adjuster installed I was able to get about an extra 50 FPS out of my gun. I get an average of 625 FPS shooting Beeman FTS 14.6gr with the power adjuster turned up 3/4 of the way. If I turn it up to the max I can get a bit higher but the shot consistancy drops, I got a shot of 639 FPS with it turned all the way up. If I turn it down to the lowest setting I get around 500 FPS, which is nice for plinking at the target and conserving CO2.

In the 2nd picture below you can see the high power setting shot I got of 639 FPS. In the 3rd picture below you can see a 5 shot group I got with the adjuster 3/4 of the way turned up at an average of 625 FPS. I am very pleased with this new addition to my gun, I highly recommend getting one for your 22XX if you are looking to either increase power or increase shot count or both.

Organization of Ammo

Here is how I like to organize my ammo for my bench shooting and testing of pellets. I found that using these segmented compartments works really well for easy identification of the ammo. It's nice also, since you have many types of pellets right at your fingertips and you can use whatever you like, without having to open up a bunch of different tins at once. They work well for storage also. Right now I have a box for .177 cal and a box for .22 cal. I picked them up at Big 5 Sporting Goods for $1.99 each in the tackle section. They are pretty sturdy for plastic containers, so no worry about them falling apart on me. I started off with only two of them to see how they worked out. Since I like them, I plan on getting a couple more so when I have more of a variety of pellets on hand I can have all of them sorted in these containers. Really handy IMO.

All of the pellets in these containers have been lubed with Krytech paraffin based lubricant using the towel method as described on Mac1's website. They keep my barrels nice and clean and when I need to clean them(rarely), all I have to do is run dry patches through. Helps a tad with velocity and accuracy, although this is disputed by some folks. I know that lubed pellets don't work as well in springers but since all of my current airguns are pumpers or CO2 I feel this is the way to go.

Some shooting I did a while back with my guns

Yes it's true, they aren't just for me to look at. I do shoot these guns often, when the weather is cooperative. I live in sunny Southern California, but sometimes it's quite windy here so I tend to not like to shoot in those conditions, because if you can't hit your target then what's the point?

This was the first airgun I purchased and modified. It started as a stock 1377c(phase 3). I have done a lot of mods to this gun and I absolutely love the way it looks and shoots. Here is a list of the modifications I have done to date:

I get about 610 FPS and 5.76 FPE with RWS Diabolo Basic 7.0gr on 10 pumps. There are no internal mods to this gun so there is a lot of room for improvement in the power department. I am mostly interested in accuracy at fairly short distances with this gun though. I may do some power mods to it one day such as some valve mods and a flat top adjustable piston. Right now I am perfectly happy with it's performance though. I believe this is my most accurate gun by far.
